Sandy knocked us off the grid for 12 days. The house and grounds survived with on minor damage. The power being out for 12 days was unacceptable. JCP&L just keeps putting wires up on poles and wondering why the trees rip them down again.

Time to invest in personal power generation. Maybe in the 8kW range with an on site fuel source. Perhaps even a battery system for kicks?
