Exceptions

Some exceptions to having the top of the game in lights are cabaret cabinets. These were built for smaller spaces and often have the marquee below the control panel. Many Midway cabinets from the 1970’s (Gun Fight, Space Invaders) also featured lower marquees. Usually these were integrated into the bezel art surrounding the monitor. Usually they are back lit and located just above the control panel.

More exceptions come in the form of different cabinets. Cockpit cabinets rarely have marquees. Cocktail table cabinets almost never sport them. If you click the Aristocrat below, you will see a puck bowling game that has a pinball style score bezel and a header instead of a traditional marquee.
