SOLD

This Galaga is sold. It joins an Asteroids (and soon a Frogger) in a nice gameroom.

Working

After a few hours we finally got the Namco Galaga board working on the new power supply with a repaired monitor. There are a few things to tidy up inside: glass catcher, monitor cable, lower watt marquee bulbs and bending the monitor frame to fit the Midway cabinet. Should be on sale soon.

Reset

We started afresh with the frustrating monitor.

On the floor we set up a Power supply (ATX) with JAMMA harness. We used an adapter to connect to a real Namco Midway Galaga board. We tried the monitor again. Green was still missing so everything looks too blue. While we were testing I smelled smoke! We cut power and check all the connections.

Something on the monitor burned up! I can’t find it yet, but we moved ahead with a back up monitor. We pulled the 13” G07 we use to test almost everything. It worked! Then I pulled the Scramble monitor, it worked.

There we sat, on the floor, considering our options. I think we are going to gut the cabinet and put this rig in place.

That means this Galaga will have:
  • New Glass Artwork
  • New CPO
  • New Buttons
  • New Joystick
  • Namco / Midway Galaga board
  • New Power Supply (ATX Style)
  • New wire Harness (JAMMA)
  • Newly Capped Monitor
  • It will be a top condition unit when completed.

Cap Kit

The WG 4600 needs new capacitors. We applied a kit tonight. This fix stopped the rolling, curl and stabilized the image. It is still a bit too blue, however.

Blow out

The monitor is worse than I hoped. When I picked up the game it was running for a long time and the image had stabilized. When I got it home the image was not stable and the warm up time was extreme. Cap Kit Time!
